Over the course of 28 days, you'll explore three major mountain ranges - The Sierra Nevada's, Cascades, and Rocky Mountains - covering deserts, cities, forests and canyons. This tour showcases the best national parks, attractions and wildlife viewing opportunities in Western USA. If you really want the 'ultimate Western USA experience', this is it! Cross nine very different states, with a multitude of exciting and exhilarating experiences.

  • Days 1 Los Angeles & Santa Barbara

With the Californian sun on your face you're off to Hollywood Boulevard, where you'll catch a view of the famous sign and stroll along the Walk of Fame. But it's time to leave the glitz and glam of LA behind you and head to the coast! First up is Santa Barbara, a gem of a coastal city with a decidedly Spanish flair and miles of pristine sandy beaches, a great introduction to the incredible California Coast. Accommodation: Camping included

  • Days 2 Monterey

Continue heading north where you make your way for the Big Sur and Monterey area. Spend your night under the Californian stars; the perfect way to get to know your fellow travellers! Accommodation: Camping included

  • Days 3-4 Yosemite National Park

As you say 'so long' to the ocean for a couple of days, head towards the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the towering peaks of Yosemite National Park. You'll have two days to hike, bike, or float through this extraordinary landscape of glacier-carved granite monoliths, spectacular waterfalls and groves of giant Sequoia trees. Make the most of the great selection of hiking trails, suitable for all levels of fitness, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for bears and coyotes roaming the trails. Accommodation: Camping included

  • Days 5-6 San Francisco

Come fog or shine, this city is always a highlight! Start with a walk across Golden Gate Bridge and a visit to Haight-Ashbury, a neighbourhood oozing with hippy vibes and plenty of quirky shops and cafes. Head down to Pier 39 to see the resident sea lions in their hundreds - you'll definitely hear them before you see them! For seafood, make your way to nearby Fisherman's Wharf. Learn all about the prisoners who spent their lives trying to escape the city's most famous attraction, Alcatraz Prison, with a superb audio tour included in your trip (value US$33). For a different perspective of the famous Golden Gate Bridge, set sail on an optional sunset sail cruise in the evening. Bliss! Accommodation: Hostel included

  • Days 7-8 Redwood National Park

Take in the stunning scenery as you drive up the Californian Coast to Redwood National Park. Get out and stretch those legs with a hike through Tall Trees Grove trail and keep an eye out for elk and bears who can be found hiding under the canopy of the Redwoods. As the name suggest these trees are tall! They are in fact the tallest trees on earth, so be prepared to spend a lot of time looking up. As you explore more of the park you might start to recognise the canyons covered in fern and moss from Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World, but don't worry, the dinosaurs are long gone! After an amazing day in Redwood National Park watch the sun set over the Pacific Ocean on what is virtually your own private beach. Sounds like the perfect day, right? Accommodation: Camping included
